But I know it's epic.Īs a continuation of the exchange with ED, I succumbed to temptation and bought Falcon. I just can't justify it yet when I have so many other great plugins that I haven't used their full potential yet. I've been very tempted by Falcon, but haven't bought it yet. We live in amazing times for sure when we have all this power. Good luck! Best thing I can say is create a test project and see how it behaves on your system and how you like your workflow.įalcon is indeed impressive. If you rely heavily on HALion, then you might try a different approach. I have a very powerful workstation and have yet to max out my machine on one of my typical projects, plus I use subprojects, so that helps too.īut your project organization and composition/production style may be very different. However, I don't use a huge number of patches/instruments of HALion at once, so I don't have a huge number of instances of HALion. It makes organizing my projects much better for me, and far easier to bump tracks out to subprojects later on or to freeze tracks/instruments if needed. In my case, I prefer to use one patch/instrument per instance per track - it's super simple, keeps things very clean for me and the way I like to work. Reaper will handle them as efficiently as possible, better than Cubase. It's up to you how you structure your project and how many simultaneous patches/instruments of HALion you use, and whether they are contained in a few or multiple instances of HALion. What is the suggested way to set up HALion with Reaper? I’d like to make sure if I only need one instance of the VST or if it matters if I use multiple instances. My issue is sometimes with playing multiple presets at the same time. Once I have the VST set up and MIDI recorded one or more tracks and then I would render to audio. I am trying to figure out the best way to set up tracks and record the MIDI from the VST on separate tracks and sometimes play or record 2 to 8 presets at the same time for a layered sound. Reaper never seems to have an issue with overloading CPU usage from what I can tell for the same setup. I know that Reaper handles CPU much better than Cubase 9.5 and from what I have seen Cubase with an instance of HALion Sonic or SE with 8 or more slots loaded will overload the CPU and hard disk meter randomly even when I am not playing or recording. I’m not sure if it is better to create one instance of HALion or multiple instances with one preset per instance. I would like to get feedback from others who create their own projects and songs for the following.
